Director Business Development (Contract Logistics) - Houston TX

Job Summary

Accountable to develop and implement a sales strategy focused on developing and securing incremental revenue and market share from existing customers and new business to achieve profitable volume growth consistent with marketing plan initiatives; and improving business development processes.  Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures, ISO standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.  Models and acts in accordance with our guiding principles and core values. 


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage, direct and coordinate global efforts for centralized RFP and RFI responses.
  • Provide overall leadership, direction and management of the business development efforts for specific industries - spearheading business development initiatives that are consistent with the company’s overall strategy.
  • Develop, identify and qualify new business development opportunities through various lead sources including sales team members and relationship managers. 
  • Work corroboratively with the senior sales staff to develop business strategies that are consistent with the national vertical market to maximize margins and increase revenue growth.
  • Develop a target account list and work proactively to assist the sales organization to develop and secure customers globally.
  • Provide direction and assistance with responses to Requests for Proposals (RFP’s), preparing presentations and monitoring sales leads and responses.
  • Develop and implement sales plans and sales campaigns to take advantage of market opportunities (competitive developments and/or consolidation yield advantages).
  • Prepare annual budgets and monthly management reports.
  • Build strategic relationships with key contacts within customer organizations to understand opportunities for creating value.
  • Capitalize on value creation opportunities by working closely with the sales and operations management team to develop creative workable solutions to customer needs.
  • Facilitate cross-selling opportunities to increase revenue and leverage relationships in order to better penetrate the market.
  • Leverage the company's global reach to influence decisions on projects for customer deliveries in both domestic and international locations.
  • Facilitate regular meetings with clients and relevant operations staff to evaluate performance and receive updates from clients on challenges and future plans.
  • Work with customer service teams to understand and develop solutions to client business issues.
  • Ensure that projects and opportunities that are global in nature are effectively communicated across the company.
  • Partner with the business units/functions, sales, operations and management to develop implementation project plans.
  • Work with implementation teams on new projects to ensure customer expectations are communicated.
  • Work corroboratively with the operational staff at multiple sites and locations to ensure customers' needs and expectations are met.
  • Provide marketing support and knowledge within the company for all products and services.
  • Continually improve knowledge of the company’s products and services, and follow the changes in industry to develop new products.
  • Utilize superior communications skills to motivate staff and develop effective working relationships with peers, executives and clients.
  • Oversee and manage the professional development and productivity of staff members to ensure proper goals, training, professional development and project requirements are met.
  • Keep abreast of emerging technology changes and innovations through formal or informal study, reading business and professional publications, networking and participation in professional organizations.   
  • Perform other duties as required.




Education and Experience

  • High School Degree or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Transportation, Supply Chain Management or related field of study preferred; or combination of work experience and completion of the LDP Program.
  • Minimum seven to ten years related sales experience.
  • Minimum five years industry experience preferred.
  • Minimum five years supervisory or managerial experience required.

  • Demonstrated success in developing sales plans, analyzing profitability of prospects, and the ability to understand the competitive influences and risks associated with individual accounts.
  • Proven “business-to-business” sales experience in the transportation, logistics, or supply chain management industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of the economics affecting a client’s business environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of all CEVA products and services.
  • Demonstrated success in leading, supervising, managing, motivating and developing individuals and high performance teams.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to persuade, influence, negotiate and make formal presentations in meetings and training environments.
  • Ability to develop strong business relationships within all levels of organizations, including senior level executives.
  • Demonstrated skills in organization group process, problem identification and resolution at both a strategic and functional level.
  • Requires positive, competitive, confident personality with strongly developed persuasive skills and a customer-focused orientation. 
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, employees and customers. 
  • Knowledgeable of domestic and international regulatory compliance laws and regulations related to the supply chain and transportation industry.
  • Ability to manage the financial aspects of the department (purchasing, budget preparation and review, financial reporting and monitoring expenses).

Travel Requirements
Travel is required at least 40% of the time in this position.  Travel identified is approximately 90% domestic (within the United States) and approximately 10% international (outside of the United States).
